Pequannock 'Upstream' Capsizing the strip Mall - site

The Site is one of many single use ubiquitous strip malls in NJ.  It is bordered to the West by State Highway Route 23 and to the East by the Pompton River just above its confluence with the Passaic River.   The mall flooded twice in four years creating many economic disruptions for the owner, shopkeepers and employees.  The design challenge for our studio was to propose new mix-use structures to replace damaged commercial space, add housing and a community space while improving water management with landscape restoration and infrastructure. The Riverfront is to be seen as an asset rather than a service area. Connections to neighborhoods and parkland could include bridging and footpaths.
