SPBA process

The Design Process is critical in achieving the best possible project. SPBA utilizes a rigorous process with great efficiency from years of experience. While rigorous, our process is nimble and flexible to accommodate the inevitable influences that emerge. Creative thinking is always employed to create beautiful solutions to design problems.

Pre-Design

We listen, we look, we sketch, and we watch people in a place before we design. SPBA digs deep into researching a site to discover its physical attributes and historic narrative in addition to any relevant regulatory conditions. In the pre-design process we have been known to also discover poetic qualities of a project site.

Schematic Design

Even when we, or our clients, think the design solution is obvious, we present a range of concepts. This gives the client an opportunity to react to a variety of graphic ideas and allows us to refine the direction of the project as it advances.

Design Development

By this phase, clients will have a very clear idea of the spatial, massing & material attributes of the project. Advancing the work allows us to consider several building system alternatives as part of a coherent whole. This is when the magic of design synthesis occurs.

Construction Documents

These are created without losing sight of the original design concept and client goals for the project. This part of the process makes the project buildable and biddable. The client can be sure that their vision has been documented and can be converted into built form.

Bidding & Negotiation

Our bidding documents are comprehensive. If you are using a competitive bidding process, they allow you and equitable comparison of pre-qualified bidders.

Construction Supervision

This is an exciting part of the process where we verify for our clients that they are getting the quality and scope of the project they envisioned. Clarifications, sketches and review of submittals are frequently a part of the construction process service. This is a cooperative effort.

Post Construction
After the Owner has had some time living in and with the new project, we check in and visit the project.  We interview our client to measure their satisfaction and to see if there is a need for any corrections or additional items the client wants to add to the work.
